As a company we know that the impact we have extends beyond our office walls and the capital we lend.

We believe there is a better way of doing things and know that we have an important role to play to drive positive change within our industry.

Foundations for Better Futures represents the ESG (environmental, social and governance) strategy for MSP Capital. This is the first step to our ongoing journey to do better and create a positive legacy.

Caring for our team

Our people are the bedrock of our business. We encourage a culture of openness, friendship and health with a holistic approach that includes:

  • An office gym with personal training and classes
  • Four mental health first aiders
  • Weekly fruit deliveries
  • Out-of-office social events and sport clubs
  • Free and confidential access to an Employees Assistance Programme with 24/7 helpline.

Keeping our team healthy, happy and inspired is what sets us apart and helps us attract and retain the best talent in the industry.

Supporting our communities

As part of our ongoing ESG framework, we established our in-house Community Committee at the beginning of 2022, to help raise vital funds for charities that are close to our hearts and make a real difference in our communities.

Since then, we have raised over £20,000 and, alongside our partners, launched initiatives including football kit and boot donations with AFC Bournemouth and The Healthy Lifestyles Campaign, to help pupils in Dorset understand and improve their health and wellbeing.

We are proud of the difference we have made so far and excited about upcoming opportunities.

“We want to be more sustainable as a business and we believe we have a responsibility to drive positive change in our industry too. This initiative is about making a real change and continuing to evolve so we create and maintain a lasting positive contribution.”

– Adam Tovey, Director of Risk and Underwriting

Making our industry the best it can be

As a specialist lender, our industry means a lot to us!

It’s more important than ever that we focus on not just how the industry works, but the talent that works within it. We’re proud that 48% of Team MSP is female, but more can be done to achieve a balanced industry that sources, nurtures and supports the best new talent.

To help identify what needs to change, we firstly commissioned independent research with senior women in property. Our next steps will be to move towards holding regular thought-leadership forums where property professionals can work together to create positive change.

We’re also focusing on sharing new and upcoming changes to the industry to help our clients stay ahead. Our first Lunch & Learn event was in June 2023 which covered the upcoming Biodiversity Net Gain changes.

Making sustainable choices for the future

As a lender, our goal is to empower property professionals to put the environment and their community at the forefront of their decision-making.

We want to lead by example. Through education, shifting mindsets, and our ongoing work on our internal governance, we have taken the following steps to support sustainability from the inside out:

  • Since March 2022, we have been a Carbon Neutral+ office , offsetting 125% of the carbon emissions from our office.
  • We made the switch to renewable energy, recycled paper and sustainable products.
  • We introduced green travel solutions such as cycle-to-work schemes.
  • We commissioned independent research with developers to understand the industry’s requirements, motivators and barriers to sustainable development.

The journey continues

We cannot change overnight but we are committed to learning and doing as much as we can as a business, and sharing our discoveries with the wider industry along the way.

By laying the foundations to build better futures, in our offices and within our communities, industry and the wider environment, we will make a real change and lasting impact. We’re excited for what the future holds in this space for MSP!
