On Thursday 5th December, Team MSP will take on the ‘12 Classes of Christmas’ challenge, completing 12 hours of gym classes to raise funds for the MS Society. This challenge holds special meaning for us, as it’s in support of a staff-chosen charity.

Natasha Tomlinson, Finance Assistant, chose this charity in support of her close friend, Imogen, who has been living with multiple sclerosis (MS) for seven years.

MS is a condition that impacts the nervous system, with symptoms that can range from numbness and fatigue to mobility issues and severe disability. Natasha’s personal connection to MS, through her friend’s diagnosis at the age of 21, has given her a profound understanding of what it means to live with the condition. Natasha shares, “It’s really opened my eyes to the extent MS can impact daily life. To see my friend diagnosed so young, and knowing what she must live with daily, is heartbreaking. It’s an invisible condition to those who don’t know her. ”

Imogen, Natasha’s friend shares “The MS Society is so important to me. When I got diagnosed, the MS Society website was so useful when it came to understanding the condition and what was happening to me. There is also support for family and friends, to help them understand the condition. The MS Society also works to find effective treatments to prevent MS. They provide an MS helpline which is so important for so many people living with MS, like myself, to feel supported and part of a community. “

In 2019, Natasha and her friend ran the Bournemouth Half Marathon to raise money for the MS Society, but the reality of MS means that her friend will find it more difficult to take on these challenges in the future. It’s this personal experience that drives our mission to raise funds for the MS Society, an organisation that provides support to people living with MS and funds vital research.

While treatments exist to help slow the progression of MS, there is still no cure, and the side effects of medications can be challenging. The MS Society’s ongoing research aims to improve diagnosis, treatment, and overall care for those living with MS. Natasha is hopeful for a breakthrough: “I pray there is a breakthrough soon, and if we can help fund even a small part of that, it would be incredible.”

The ‘12 Classes of Christmas’ is our way of supporting the MS Society, raising awareness, and helping to fund the research and services that make a real difference to those living with MS.

Support us in making an impact this December and supporting this important cause. Every donation brings us one step closer to a brighter future for those living with MS.
